INFORMATION ABOUT COPENHAGEN WRESTLING CUP
The history of Copenhagen Wrestling Cup
In 2001 three wrestling clubs from Copenhagen, CIK, AK Dan and AK Hermod, joined forces to organize the Danish senior wrestling championships in connection with the 100th anniversary of the Danish Wrestling Association.
The cooperation went so well that we got the idea to join forces to organize a large annually recurring international tournament here in Copenhagen, where we would strive for as high an international level as possible.
The purpose would also be to raise interest and media attention for wrestling here in Denmark and specifically in Copenhagen, where the sport is having a hard time because of very little accession.
I 2003 we took the daring steep for the first time and organized an international wrestling tournament in Copenhagen by the mane of Copenhagen Wrestling Cup (CWC).
It vas a great success with 127 participants from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, Austria and Estonia.
We decided to continue the success with a annually tournament in Copenhagen and CWC are now scheduled for the second weekend of May with participant of all category boys, cadets girls, woman and senior), and has within a few year become the largest internationals wrestling tournament in Denmark.
The number of participants is growing yearly, and in 2007 participated not less than 286 wrestlers - an increasing of
63% compared with the first tournament in 2003. Furthermore CWC has succeed in achieving to bee the wrestling tournament in Denmark who has the highest international level.
In 2005 and 2006 participated a long number of champions and 15 OL-, VM- or EM-participants.
And off course we hope for even more highly skilled wrestlers competing at CWC for the years to come
